MAGNIFYING THE MUSEUMS PROJECT

The Tennessee Aquarium, on behalf of a consortium of schools and museums, led a three-year Institute for Museum and Library Services “National Leadership Grant” designed to enhance the museum experiences of students at Chattanooga Middle Museum Magnet School and Normal Park Museum Magnet.  The consortium included seven Chattanooga museums: Chattanooga Nature Center, Creative Discovery Museum, Chattanooga African-American Museum, Chattanooga Zoo, Chattanooga Regional History Museum, Hunter Museum of American Art and the Tennessee Aquarium.  Working together, these nine institutions reached the goal of enabling parents and teachers to better understand how museums can facilitate the educational advancement of their children.  Specifically, this collaboration combined the staff, resources, expertise and experience of all nine institutions to create an integrated program of museum-based curriculum.

More information about this collaborative project can be found below:

1) 2004 SWOT Analysis – for developing Museum Magnet Schools in Chattanooga.

2) Grant Project Final Report to IMLS  - prepared by the Tennessee Aquarium, lead partner.

3) 2008 Evaluation Report and Planning for the Future Report – prepared by Kennedy, Coulter, Rushing and Watson.
