Additional Program Opportunities

Distance Learning
(Grade Level: K - 12) Want to combine technology, live animals and science educators from the Tennessee Aquarium in your classroom? Setting up a distance learning session does just that and is as simple as filling out the online registration form, Live animals accompanied by an Aquarium educator knowledgeable in the animal's characteristics, behavior, habitat and diet come to the camera ready to interact with your students. The educator answers your students' questions and aids their understanding of the relationships among animals, habitats and environments. Other sessions focus on habitats, frogs and trade in protected species. Click here for more information. Distance learning sessions are $75 per 40 minute session and can be scheduled Monday through Friday between Labor Day and Memorial Day. To register, simply click on the online registration form. Contact Charles Hayslett at (800) 262-0695, ext. 4094 or e-mail at CLH2@tnaqua.org for further information.

Gallery Programs
At various times and locations throughout the day, education staff members present mini programs (5 20 minutes in length) providing a closer look at some amazing creatures and fascinating topics associated with the Tennessee Aquarium. Every day, divers and educators conduct dive shows in the Ocean Journey building and, during the winter months, feedings for several animals are highlighted. Each of these interactive programs gives curious minds a chance to ask questions, observe behaviors and see live animals up close while learning about habitats and their inhabitants.

Education Props
Educational materials are available for visually impaired students. Check with a Guest Services associate when you arrive. Each duffel bag (one for Ocean Journey and one for River Journey) has props/teacher information.

Homeschool Opportunities
Turn your science lessons into learning adventures as you explore nature with the Tennessee Aquarium. Are you planning a visit? Call our Reservations Department in advance to schedule your homeschool group of ten or more students to receive the discounted education rate and to request a free education program. Please refer to General School Visit Information and School Programs sections for class descriptions, pricing and scheduling.

Would you like to participate in hands on laboratory and field experiences? Life science classes are available for individual homeschool students. During class, students become familiar with the scientific process as they focus on a variety of life science topics from arthropods to wetlands. Sleep in the Deep
Ever dream of sleeping under the peaks alongside sharks, stingrays, and more? Now's your chance. Come "sleep in the deep" and wake up to a whole new world.

Your fast paced adventure takes you on a whirlwind tour around our world as you tour both River Journey and Ocean Journey. We will make some stops to take you where the aquarists and divers go and give you some idea of what it’s like to be part of the Aquarium team. We’ll have some time for a snack and meet with some of our critters up close and see what it’s like in the Aquarium after the lights go down. And just when your eyes can’t stay open any longer, we’ll bed down alongside our largest exhibits where you can dream about all the magnificent creatures found in the Tennessee Aquarium.

This special opportunity is for groups only. An evening snack and continental breakfast are provided as well as an IMAX film on weekends; dinner is optional. Children must be at least six years of age and must be accompanied by chaperones in a ratio of one chaperone per ten students. Additional chaperones are welcome if space permits.
