Come closer than you’ve ever dared to one of nature’s most sophisticated predators in the new film “Sharks 3D,” showing July 29 - Aug. 4, 2007 at the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater.

Witness feeding frenzies, swim with the biggest fish on earth and overcome your deepest fear as you encounter a great white shark.

“Sharks 3D” dominates the IMAX film experience with up-close encounters with a multitude of shark species, including the great white, hammerhead and whale shark. Shot on location in Mexico, Colombia, Egypt, South Africa and Polynesia, “Sharks 3D” documents the remarkable life of the ultimate predator.

You'll witness sharks as they really are -- not wicked man-eating creatures, but wild, fascinating and highly endangered animals. The film required an extensive nine-month shoot with a total of 500 dive hours

"The minute I saw this amazing footage, I knew I had to be involved with this documentary,” said Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of legendary underwater explorer Jacques Cousteau. “With this 3D experience, you ARE the diver, swimming weightlessly with sharks all around. “Sharks 3D” sheds new light on the urgent need to protect these magnificent endangered animals, which are so essential to the survival of our oceans."

"Despite the existence of various international treaties, certain shark species have been reduced by nearly 80 percent in the past decade. Today, the priority is not only to end the steady decline of shark populations, but to rehabilitate the shark’s image among the general public," said United Nations Environment Program's Executive Director, Klaus Toepfer.

"There are a lot of myths and misconceptions about sharks and shark bites," says Rob Mottice, Aquarium acquisitions manager. “Sharks should be respected, not feared. Sharks do much less harm to people than people do to sharks. Tens of thousands of sharks are killed each year. People are more likely to be killed by lightning than by a shark.
