Coral Banded Shrimp
Stenopus hispidus ON EXHIBIT: Seahorses: Beyond Imagination at River Journey

FUN FACTS
This shrimp is a member of the “boxing shrimp” family, Stenopodidae. They hold their large pinchers erect, giving the appearance of a boxer ready to fight.
Young coral banded shrimp pair up and grow together. Paired adults can be found in the same territory for days, months or even years. Scientists have never observed this species move a distance greater than 1 ½ feet unless disturbed, and even then, the paired individuals attempt to stay together.
