Chattanooga Riverfront
You’ll discover outstanding restaurants, eclectic shops, hotels, an arts district, parks and world-class museums within a few blocks of the aquarium. Leave the car parked. The Tennessee Aquarium River Gorge Explorer, Fat Cat Ferry and Southern Belle riverboat are docked within a few hundred yards – ready to take you on a fun-filled river journey with spectacular views.
River Gorge Explorer Welcome aboard the Tennessee Aquarium River Gorge Explorer! This 70 passenger high-speed catamaran is the first of its kind in the Southeast. Aquarium visitors can extend their “mountains to the sea” learning adventure by cruising into the Tennessee River Gorge aboard this sleek vessel. An Aquarium naturalist will lead you into this protected habitat, pointing out wildlife and historic points of interest along the way.

Fat Cat Ferry and Chattanooga Water Taxi
Catch the Ferry or Water Taxi afternoons - sunset, on the Pier at Ross’s Landing, a block from the Aquarium.  Disembark at Coolidge Park for the carousel, local restaurants and shops, or continue your scenic tour up river and around Maclellan Island. Your pass is good all day.  The Water Taxi is running Saturday's only from 12 noon to sunset.

Stop by Tadpoles at the City Pier for refreshments or a riverfront picnic lunch. Enjoy deck seating on the river.

Continue your tour on the Fat Cat Ferry up river and around Maclellan Island. This 18-acre bird sanctuary features Great blue Herons, Osprey and migrating Warblers. Explore the island by walking it's nature trail. A donation of $1 per person will be requested to support the Chattanooga Audubon Society's local efforts should you choose this adventure.

Across from the island, view the majestic bluffs that support the renowned Hunter Museum of American Art, and The Passage that marks the Trail of Tears celebrating Chattanooga’s Native American Culture. You’ll be inspired to take a closer look once you return to Ross’s Landing.

The art museum, located in the beautiful Bluff View Art District, is just a two-block walk from the Aquarium through an outdoor sculpture garden and over a glass bridge.

Southern Belle

For a relaxing dinner cruise on the Tennessee River, complete with musical performances and prime rib, make a reservation on the Southern Belle Riverboat. Daytime sightseeing cruises and daily lunch cruises are also a treat.

Make the most of your visit to Chattanooga’s riverfront entertainment district with discount combination tickets to the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater. From the far reaches of our solar system to the ocean depths of planet earth, IMAX takes you to places you’ve only imagined. With crystal clear, larger than life 3D images that leap off the screen, you’ll feel as if you’re part of the action. Films show every hour on the hour.

By foot, boat or bike - plan to spend at least a full day exploring both shores on Chattanooga’s beautiful riverfront.
