All American Fun

Kick back on the beautiful downtown Chattanooga Riverfront. The perfect place to enjoy a variety of boating adventures on the scenic Tennessee River, world-class museums, family-fun games on the Chattanooga Green, picnics-to-go or fabulous dining — all within easy walking distance of one another.

Celebrate what’s special about summer on the downtown Chattanooga riverfront.  From animals, art and music, to history, games, picnics, baseball and scenic views, there’s something for all ages. On the weekends, enjoy the sounds of Appalachian tunes on the Aquarium plaza with banjo, guitar, drums and hammered dulcimer along with traditional folk life demonstrations.
River Gorge Explorer

The Tennessee Aquarium takes you on a remarkable journey from the mountains to the sea. Within it's two buildings you'll explore three living forests and get up close to amazing creatures that swim, fly and crawl in natural habitats.

Ride the Tennessee Aquarium’s new experience, the River Gorge Explorer for a guided wildlife adventure through the Grand Canyon of Tennessee.

Cool off in the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX Theater with whitewater thrills as you experience Grand Canyon 3D: River at Risk.  Or plunge into the world of Dolphins and Whales 3D on the huge IMAX screen.

Hunter Museum of American Art

For more fun, buy an All American Summer package that includes admission to the Tennessee Aquarium and the Hunter Museum of American Art. The art museum, located in the beautiful Bluff View Art District, is just a two-block walk from the Aquarium through an outdoor sculpture garden and over a glass bridge.

See the Hunter’s newest exhibition, “William Morris: Myth, Object and the Animal.” Morris transforms molten glass in to works that resemble unearthed artifacts, animals and ancient peoples. The exhibit ranges from tiny works that mimic birds and other creatures to an enormous installation that looks like an ancient elephant burial ground.

Fat Cat Ferry

Catch the Fat Cat Ferry and Chattanooga Water Taxi afternoons - sunset, on the Pier at Ross’s Landing, a block from the Aquarium.  Disembark at Coolidge Park for the carousel, local restaurants and shops, or continue your scenic tour up river and around Maclellan Island. Your pass is good all day.  The Water Taxi is running 4 p.m. to sunset daily and 12 noon to sunset on Sat. & Sun. Carousel hours are 9:30 a.m. - 9 p.m., Mon. - Sat. and Sun. 1 - 9 p.m.

Hungry?  Pick up an All-American Hot Dog Combo or snack to-go from the Tennessee Aquarium concessions in the IMAX Center and on the plaza.  Or stop by Tadpoles at the City Pier for refreshments or a riverfront picnic lunch. Enjoy deck seating on the river.
Southern Belle

For a relaxing dinner cruise on the Tennessee River, complete with musical performances and great food, make a reservation on the Southern Belle Riverboat. Daytime sightseeing cruises and daily lunch cruises are also a treat. The nightly dinner cruise is famed for its prime rib. Specialty musical performances accompany most dinner cruises and are wonderful for the whole family.

By foot, boat or bike - plan to spend at least a full day exploring both shores on Chattanooga’s beautiful riverfront.
