1) NEW Monster Fish Exhibit
Take a deeper dive into the hidden world of some of the world’s largest freshwater fishes when “Monster Fish: In Search of the Last River Giants,” a National Geographic exhibition opens on October 1. Stunning life-sized sculptures, hands-on interactive exhibits, and videos from the field bring visitors closer to more than 20 species more than 20 species of legendary, monster-sized fish – each at least six feet long and weighing more than 200 pounds. One of these replica creatures, the super-sized sawfish, is climbable. This special exhibition, which is free with Aquarium membership or general admission, is located in the River Place building (adjacent to the Aquarium’s ticketing center).
2) Fall Color Cruises
Chattanooga's most beautiful fall foliage is expected to occur between late October to mid-November this year. The best views in the area can be seen from any of our daily River Gorge Explorer Fall Color cruises. An experienced Tennessee Aquarium naturalist leads each two-hour excursion, pointing out wildlife and historic points of interest along the way. Guests are invited to enjoy the awesome autumn scenery from the observation deck while cruising through the Gorge. (Tip: Don't forget your camera!)
Serious leaf peepers will want to register for one of our River GORGEous Fall Color Cruises. You’ll enjoy a 3 ½ hour fall foliage cruise through the entire 34 mile Tennessee River Gorge during color peak season.
3) New IMAX Films
Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Secret Ocean 3D provides a unique opportunity to view amazing marine ecosytems with a SCUBA diving legend. Narrated by oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle, this film explores the secret world within the ocean that is perhaps the biggest story of all – that the smallest life in the sea is the mightiest force on which we all depend.
Also back for a limited time starting on September 30, JERUSALEM 3D takes audiences on an inspiring and eye-opening tour of one of the world’s oldest and most enigmatic cities.
4) AquaScarium IX
Come in costume and celebrate a family-friendly night of spooky critters and yummy treats! Make new friends at the mermaid lagoon, but beware of pirates looming nearby. Don’t miss an unforgettable photo op with one of your favorite characters as they SCUBA dive with hundreds of fish. Get your groove on at the Monster Mash dance party with some of the Aquarium’s lovable mascots, while enjoying the candy stations throughout both buildings! Registration is open now.
5) Costumed SCUBA Divers
In October, you might just catch your favorite superhero or cartoon character pulling double duty as a volunteer SCUBA diver in our Nickajack Lake or River Giants exhibits. As Halloween nears, they may even be showing off their underwater pumpkin carving skills!
BONUS: Fall-themed Animal Enrichment
You never know when special fall foods and other items might pop up in our animals' habitats. Otters love to play with (and then chow down on) pumpkins and our delta turtles have even been known to bob for apples! Check out this video from last fall!
