Stewards AmeriCorps VISTA
Areas of Expertise: Outdoor and Environmental Education, Appalachian Sustainability
Sammi’s interest in water began, like so many children’s, in her neighborhood creek. Exploring the plant and animal life of her Georgia backyard fostered an appreciation for the native ecosystems of the South. In adulthood, Sammi balanced her teaching of pond and river ecology, herpetology, and outdoor skills to students via Georgia 4H, Zoo Atlanta, and Black Mountain Expeditions with endless backpacking and swimming excursions near and far. After receiving her Master’s Degree in Appalachian Sustainability, Sammi joined the TNACI team as an AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) with the goal of developing educational programming for underserved high school populations in the greater Chattanooga community.
