In Ocean Journey, guests arriving during September can encounter a variety of colorful creatures from around the world. During their visit, guests exploring the new Island Life gallery will come face-to-face with a host of amazing animals, including colorful Panther Chameleons, sleek Monitor Lizards and a school of glimmering Flashlight Fish.
The sight of the dazzling reef fish in Island Life’s Indo-Pacific exhibit may inspire guests to visit the IMAX 3D Theater to catch a showing of Great Barrier Reef 3D. This giant screen offering explores how scientists and tourists are helping to protect the world-renowned reef system stretching along Australia’s eastern shores. For a more explosive experience on Chattanooga’s largest screen, some visitors may opt instead to catch Volcanoes 3D: The Fires of Creation. As they are whisked around the world, audiences will witness the creative side of these magma-ficent wonders, which create new landmasses and enrich the surrounding landscape from the islands of Hawaii to the lava lakes of Vanuatu.
In the River Journey building, visitors can experience the many wonders of the freshwater world. As they journey takes them from the Cove Forests of the Appalachian Mountains to the mighty rivers and lakes of Africa, guests will encounter a host of memorable animals, from enormous Arapaima and playful North American River Otters to stunning Rainbowfish and North America’s largest collection of turtles.
Throughout both Aquarium buildings, visitors have multiple opportunities each day to interact with Aquarium experts and enjoy up-close encounters with amazing animals during any of more than a dozen free daily programs,.
In a special third showing at the IMAX 3D Theater, guests will also be able to relive the excitement of the moment the first humans set foot on the Moon while watching Apollo 11: First Steps Edition. Viewed on the theater’s six-story screen, this film offers unprecedented — and in some cases, never-before-seen — perspective on this generation-defining voyage, including audio from mission control and the astronauts themselves from the spine-tingling moments at liftoff through the lunar landing and safe splashdown back on Earth.
